Abstract

Every day large number of professional medical and pharmaceutical information are posted on the Russian Internet (“Runet”). Russian patients and physicians began to actively participate at special social media. Over the past two years a lot of social networks and communities of patients and physicians are actively developing in the Russian Internet. Examples: the social network of doctors and patients, "Help Doctor» (http://www.pomogidoctor.ru), a social network for oncologists and patients' Onkoveb »(www.oncoweb.ru),« The doctor is of the essence! "- a social network of doctors and patients (http://vrach-glavnoe.ru/), social network," My ears "for patients with disabilities hearing and for professionals working in this area, social group of people with diabetes in the LJ (http://my-diabet.livejournal.com), community "Physician and patient» (http://md-social.com/), St. Petersburg social network of medical clinics, doctors 'and patients' MEDEF »(http://www.medef.ru), three open groups of patients with diabetes in Facebook« diabetes. Diabetes "" Diabetes "," diabetes ", Health Blog emergency doctor (http://www.happydoctor.ru) and many others
The active development of social networks and communities of patients have given a serious push for the establishment of new format of communication between patients, doctors, medical institutions, pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment producers.
The Patients 2.0 movement as well as Participatory Medicine in Russia were born with the help of the new format of communication. This new format of communication in social networks between patients and doctors patients creates new opportunities and new challenges for reducing disease and increasing the availability and quality of medical care.
This research focuses on analyzing the content of Russian social networks for patients and its impact on the communication between doctors and patients at the on-line and of-line environment.
Research Data:
1) compiling a database of social networks and communities of Russian-speaking patients, and content analysis for September 2011 in 8 patients for social media in various formats.
8 social media (different formats):
2 social networks of patients with different diseases,
2 social networks for patients with concrete illness,
2 Facebook’ patient social communities
2 patient’s blogs.
Method: a content analysis, discourse analysis (120 texts for analysis).
2) 10 expert in-depth interviews with physicians of municipal clinics ( September-October 2011, Moscow).
In social networks and communities patients are trying to solve their medical problems, give each other all possible information and emotional support.
These special social media of patients are the powerful resources for participants. But it can create benefits and serious harm to the patients. The content of social networks increases the patient's sense of control and the ability to manage their own illness. Social networks also have a considerable emotional support to the chronically ill.
In addition, social networks offer individualized professional support and advice to doctors.
More than half of the respondents have noted that in the last two or three years they have become increasingly confronted by Patient 2.0.
Social networks of patients are potentially very successful places for promotion and advertising of medicines, medical equipment and medical products.
It is important to establish closer links between patient’ social media and medical professional community.
