JMIR Medicine 2.0 Award 2013

As in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and 2012, JMIR Publications, publisher of the Journal of Medical Internet Research, the leading peer-reviewed journal for health and health care in the Internet age (Impact Factor: 4.7), is once again sponsoring an annual award for the best paper presented at Medicine 2.0. This award goes to a presentation of unpublished research and is designed to encourage and facilitate publication in the Journal of Medical Internet Research or another JMIR journal. If a full paper based on the presentation at Medicine 2.0 is submitted within 2 months after the conference and subsequently accepted by JMIR, the Submission Fee and the Article Processing Fee is waived entirely for the awardee; alternatively, the awardee can opt to pay the APF in case of acceptance and instead receive a cash-award of US$500.

In 2009 -2011 the award consisted of a US$ 500 award for the winner, to be used to facilitate development of a paper to be submitted to a peer reviewed journal for publication. There will be a similar award for 2013 (NEW: possibly a second award for the best poster).

Eligibility (provisional - subject to change for 2013):

  • Eligible candidates are presenters (first authors) in the research track at the Medicine 2.0 conference
  • Presenters must be under the age of 40 at the time of the last day of the conference

  • Candidates must indicate on the Medicine 2.0 submission form that they wish to have their abstracts and presentations considered for the Award.

  • Previous recipients of the Award will not be eligible.

Criteria:

The award will be given to recognise the best or most promising use or discussion of Web 2.0 for providing actual or potential benefit in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics. All eligible abstracts will be considered by the judging panel (drawn from IMIA and the Medicine 2.0 organisers) and a shortlist of the most promising abstracts will be developed. Each presentation will then be judged and a winner determined from the scores.

Final criteria may be subject to change, but will cover:

  1. Scientific quality of the accepted abstract
  2. Quality of the presentation
  3. Interaction of the presenter through questions or discussion
  4. Relevance to the conference themes and to the actual or potential use of Web 2.0 in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics.
